Social stability and peace are under pressure worldwide, yet they are also being reimagined by a new generation of Rotarian, Rotaractors and Rotexers as well as engaged citizens, leaders, and innovators. The Social Stability & Peace track of the Rotary International Future Forum will be the meeting point for those who want to protect democracy, harness digitization responsibly, and strengthen international peace.
Why talk about democracy now
Across the globe, democratic institutions are facing rising polarization, misinformation, and declining trust in public leadership. At the same time, citizens are demanding more transparency, participation, and accountability.
The track on social stability and peace will:
- Explore how democratic systems can adapt to social and technological change without losing their core values of representation and rule of law.
- Highlight examples of democratic innovation: participatory budgeting, citizens’ assemblies, deliberative forums, and local initiatives that rebuild trust from the ground up.
- Connect policymakers, civil society, and young leaders to develop concrete ideas for strengthening institutions and civic culture.
Digitization and the future of democracy
Digitization is reshaping how people receive information, organize, and participate in public life. (see the generated image above) The same tools that empower social movements can also be used to spread disinformation, manipulate opinion, and erode trust.
Key questions for the track include:
- How social media and algorithmic curation influence political debate, election campaigns, and public opinion.
- What digital literacy and critical thinking skills are needed so citizens can navigate information responsibly.
- How governments and platforms can balance freedom of expression with the fight against hate speech and coordinated disinformation.
- How digital tools can expand participation: online consultations, open-data platforms, and inclusive digital town halls.
International peace in a fragmented world
Conflicts, forced migration, and geopolitical tensions remain major threats to global stability. (see the generated image above) Yet international cooperation, peacebuilding initiatives, and cross-border networks show that progress is still possible.
The track will focus on:
- The changing nature of conflict, from cyber warfare and hybrid threats to resource-driven tensions exacerbated by climate change.
- The role of diplomacy, international organizations, and local peacebuilders in preventing violence and supporting reconciliation.
- How business, civil society, and education can contribute to peace through responsible investment, dialogue programs, and youth exchanges.
What participants will experience
To move from abstract ideals to practical impact, the conference will combine inspiration with hands-on formats.
Participants can expect:
- Plenary talks from thought leaders in democracy, digital policy, conflict resolution, and human rights.
- Interactive workshops where mixed groups co-create ideas for strengthening social cohesion, digital governance, and peace education in their own communities.
- Dialogue circles that allow people from different countries, generations, and professional backgrounds to share experiences and build mutual understanding.
Why you should be at the Future Forum
Social stability and peace are not guaranteed; they are the result of daily choices, institutions that work, and people who are willing to listen and collaborate across differences.
By joining Rotary International Future Forum, participants will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of how democracy and digitization interact—and what can be done to protect open societies.
- Learn concrete approaches for building bridges in polarized environments and supporting peace at local, national, and international levels.
- Become part of a network of committed people who believe that a more peaceful, just, and democratic future is possible—and are ready to help shape it.
